Indy grab is a semi-advanced kitesurfing technique. Indy grab is a trick that is very similar to the tail grab trick. It can be said that the Indy grab is just the next step in complexity after the tail grab technique.
Indy grab is executed the similar manner the tail grab is done, only with added complexity details. The Indy grab technique is useful to practice before moving to the more complex techniques.
To perform the Indy grab trick effectively, the kite surfer will need to follow the following steps. First, the kite surfer will need to achieve the proper speed and power to jump (start flying) high enough in the air. After the kite surfer is in the air, he or she will need to sustain the secure vertical position going in the forward direction. The kitesurfer’s body needs to be situated almost perpendicular to the water line.
While flying forward when performing the Indy grab trick, the kite surfer will need to keep the upper part of the body (above the waist) almost perpendicular to the water line (moved a little bit forward) and move his or her feet and the kite board to position them at approximately 70 – 80 degrees to the perpendicular (to the water) line.
Assuming the kite surfer is performing a right side Indy grab by going forward with the right hand positioned in the forward direction, he or she will need to touch the middle of the kiteboard with his or her left hand (right hand grabbing the pole). The left side Indy grab involves going forward with the left hand positioned in the forward direction (left hand is also grabbing the pole), and the right hand touching the middle of the kite board. The chosen direction depends on the kitesurfer.
