Tail grab back roll
Tail grab back roll is a trick that is very similar to the single back role. It can be said that the tail grab back roll is just the next step in complexity after the single back roll. Tail grab back roll is performed the same way the single back roll is performed, only with additional complexity details. It is an advanced kitesurfing technique and requires the kitesurfer to be comfortable with handling the kiteboard and performing the basic techniques.
Tail grab back roll requires completing one full back roll, a 360 degrees rotation in the air, at once. After the trick in complete, the kitesurfer will need to land in a forward position going in the same direction. The difference from the single back roll is the following. The kitesurfer, when performing the 360 degrees rotation, will need to hold the back on the kite board with his or her right (or left, depending on the direction) hand, with the other hand holding the pole.
As with the single back roll, the tail grab back roll can be executed in two different directions: a right-side tail grab back roll (360 degrees turn in the right direction) and a left-side tail grab back roll (360 degrees turn in the left direction).
As with the single back roll, how does the kitesurfer position his or her body when performing the tail grab back roll depends on the level of experience. The body can be positioned at from approximately 45 degrees to more then 90 degrees to the perpendicular (to the water) line with the kite and the board turning in a type of a circle fashion. The advice is to practice the single back roll first and then to move to the tail grab back roll technique.
